Food & Drinks Policy
Food & Drinks Policy
Food and drink is not permitted on the bus
Food and drink is not permitted on the bus. There are signs on every bus advising this. Clearly, food that is sealed and remains sealed for the journey is permitted. Bottled water is permitted. An example of a hot drink that can be carried is one that remains sealed in a vacuum flask/closed bottle. The screw thread sealed robust commuter mugs are another example. The disposable or basic fitting lids are not permitted. Transferring liquids,
especially hot liquids is not permitted.
A driver may use their discretion with such items, however passengers should be aware that
it is best simply not to ever take unsealed food or drink on the bus, or unseal food or drink
while on the bus.
The reasons are both health and safety and also cleanliness. If the bus were required to
come to a sudden stop then any drink that is not sealed may cause inconvenience or injury
to others such as spillages. If there is ever a spill on the bus this will need to be cleaned,
while this can be done quickly with perhaps water escaping from a closed umbrella, other
liquid spills can mean a bus is taken off the road.
